BRWC Willi Sawall 3km Handicap, North Gardens, Wed 26th November

Another stand out performance was by Jemma Peart, who walked a 30 sec PB of 15:02 to record the fastest time of the night. BRWC Graeme Nicholls Lap of the Lake, Lake Wendouree, Sun 7th September

Six members of the BRWC competed in the 2014 Graeme Nicholls Lap of the Lake early on Father’s Day morning. The event was combined with a Best O Lake event, so the walkers had a chance to put some runners to the test! That is exactly what Ross Darlow did – the 15yo storming home in an amazing time of 27:42 for the 6km course. Fastest female went to Jemma Peart in an impressive 33:59. The winner of the handicap (and the enormous trophy!) was 11yo Alanna Peart, who once again proved her talent in a fantastic maiden time of 35:07. Special mention to Kasey Bishop & Jessika Bridges, both who walked strongly to claim big PBs.  Well done also to Kayla Bridges – who, despite being the sole 3km racewalking competitor, still managed to walk a 7 sec PB.

BRWC Jared Tallent 1.5km Handicap, North Gardens, Sun 10th August

10 brave walkers fronted up to contest the 2014 Jared Tallent 1.5km Handicap despite the cold weather. Young Scott Peart was the first competitor to head off and he led for most of the race, breaking his own 1km record en route, only to be pipped at the post by a fast-finishing Mia Darlow. Mia did a PB, and this was her second claim to the title, having won the Jared Tallent Trophy back in 2012. A blanket finish then ensued, thanks to Kerrie Peart’s fine handicapping skills. Lots of PBs were smashed and 1km records were broken by Scott, Ruby & Fraser. Fastest time of the day went to Ross Darlow in an impressive 6:08 (57sec PB). Fastest female was Jemma Peart in a quick 7:12.

Twelve walkers braved a cold but sunny Ballarat morning to contest the President’s Cup. The race took the form of a sealed handicap. BRWC Pick a Distance Day, North Gardens, Wednesday 19th February

The BRWC’s first official race of the year was ‘Pick a Distance Day’, held at 4:30pm on Wednesday February 19th at North Gardens. Under very gloomy skies, competitors eagerly lined up to get their nominated distances done before the heavens opened. Unfortunately Ross Darlow only managed to complete 7km of his nominated 10km due to the inclement weather. Well done to Fraser Saunder who broke the U10 M 1km and 2km records on his way to completing 3km.
